Look who is silent now....
Not so long ago, there arose headlines….headlines talking about a woman working in a Bangalore-based call centre. She had been brutally harassed-raped and murdered. This piece of news hit everyone like a shock. And in the time immediately after this incident, the main subject for every single Indian news channel was common---Safety of Women in the Society.
During this period, you could notice news channels criticizing the kind of security provided by the company for which the woman had been working. All around there were articles about how the company had failed in it’s duties to ensure the safety of it’s employees. So,the media was making merry at the time, after all, criticizing is one of the main duties of any sort of media.
And now,getting to the point.
Yesterday, at around 3, a woman[Sowmya] was shot dead, when she was inside her car.
Incidentally, she was a journalist….yes! She worked for the media….the ever-criticizing media. Now, I can’t understand why this particular channel[for which Sowmya worked], which had taken the lead regarding the previous case about the Bangalore-based woman, had even allowed such a thing to happen. This was the channel which had given out every single possible opinion about the saftey measures to be taken up by companies for the security of a woman employee. This was the channel which had been trying to find every single possible way to bring down the public image of numerous companies, trying to find loopholes in the security system of other companies and organizations.
For all that this channel has done, it is just left to say that before they start putting up their “PHILOSOPHICAL” queries, they’d be doing better to follow all such queries themselves first. Where was their “SECURITY” for a woman??? Where were the ethics described by them when this incident took place??? What was the company doing???
You’ll notice that these were the exact same questions asked by this channel when the 1st incident in Bangalore happened.
Next time these channels have something to suggest, it would be highly appropriate if they followed these suggestions themselves.
It is easier to preach than to practice.
